Chris Froome just can’t get out of the headlines these days. The off-season certainly hasn’t been a quiet one for him and that run has continued into 2018 after the rider posted a photo on Instagram.
The Team Sky rider showed off a few bits of road rash after a training ride in South Africa where he is currently training in preparation for the new season ahead.
Shrugging off the Salbutamol controversy, Froome has been applying himself intensely at his winter training camp in the Southern Hemisphere. Seamlessly getting back into the swing of things, the 32-year-old racked up a whopping 1000km in the first week of 2018, according to his Strava account at least.
However, it seems his latest training ride took a turn for the worse with what looks like the wounds from a nasty crash. Froome didn’t add a caption and his team are yet to comment on what actually happened but it doesn’t look like the Kenyan-born Brit will be letting it keep him off the road.
One thing that may keep the Tour de France and Vuelta a España double winner is the Salbutamol case that has been a mainstay in the headlines over the off-season. Team Sky and Froome are currently defending claims that the levels of regulated substance, Salbutamol, found in the four-time Tour de France winner’s blood samples exceeded the limits permitted by the UCI rules.
There has been no word on when the conclusion to this would come but should Froome be found to have used the drug to gain a competitive advantage he may lose his Vuelta a España title and be banned for a significant amount of time.
